Tight security for I-Day fete
With Independence Day fast approaching, the traffic police is gearing up with special security arrangements in the key areas of the city. The North Zone police has taken charge at the main parade ground at Patny, Secunderabad, with pickets at its three entrances. Security arrangements will be completed by August 13, North Zone DCP Srikant said. The Chief Minister will unfurl the national flag and take the salute. “The police will tighten security in the area with the help of bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. The police will also be deployed on the rooftops of adjacent buildings as well,” Srikant said.
Security at the main government buildings and defence installations will be beefed up and surveillance will be increased in the area three days before the event, Central Zone DCP Tarun Joshi said. Senior police officers said security would be tightened at the main defence installations, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, all railway and bus stations, historical monuments and other public places.
“The city traffic police will intensify surveillance of incoming vehicles and deploy more police at important junctions. On August 13, a special drive for checking the registration certificates of vehicles, driving license and improper number plates would also be launched as part of security preparations,” traffic police DCP P.V.S. Ramakrishna said. Roads leading to the parade ground would be secured with more policemen who would check vehicles too, the traffic DCP added.
