Tight security for main Bonalu march
The city police has made elaborate arrangements for the Mahankali Laldarwaza Bonalu main procession on July 16. It is slated to be a grand affair this year with 17 tributary processions joining it.
There will be 15 platoons of special police, two companies of Rapid Action Force, 1,000 city police personnel and 700 district cops. The festival started on July 8 and is being celebrated this year across 272 temples in the South zone alone. It will continue till July 17.
South Zone deputy commissioner of police Akun Sabarwal said police pickets will be posted at the 12 jhoola-making units in the old city as the processions will be taken out from these units to various temples. Baligampa processions will be taken out on different days late at night with the main Baligampa procession being held on the nights of July 14 and 15.
The Mahankali Bonalu procession will start at Mahankali Temple, Laldarwaza at about 4 pm on July 16. It will pass throu-gh Nagulchinta, Shalibanda, Charminar, Gulzar-houz, Machilikaman, Madina Building before terminating at Nayapul at 9 pm. Mr Akun said, “Due to the sensitive nature of the area, an elaborate bandobust has been planned to maintain peace.” A round-the-clock control room has been set up at CP office, Purana Haveli (040-27854779, 27853500).
