‘Time to revamp education’

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday expressed anguish over students with high educational qualifications competing for small-time jobs like village assistants, attendants and other Group-IV posts.
Addressing the national workshop on Skill Develo-pment: Opportunities and Challenges, held by the Rajiv Education and Emp-loyment Mission in AP at Jubilee Hall, Mr Reddy said that the trend reflected the follies of the education system that needs to be rectified immediately.
The CM said, “When the government recently conducted recruitment exams to fill village revenue officer and village revenue assistant posts, a lot of students with higher education qualifications like PG, M.Tech, B.Tech etc. app-lied.
The minimum qualifications stipulated for those posts were Inter-mediate and SSC respectively. This shows the follies of our education system.
After pursuing B.Tech and M.Tech, if students start looking for jobs which require qualification of SSC and Inter, it is a matter of grave concern.
Lack of required skills to find jobs in their respective areas has been leading to this situation. Time has come to think about this issue. Academicians and industry leaders should suggest remedies to overcome this problem.”
The CM was upset at the poor quality of graduates being produced by higher educational institutes despite the state spending Rs 3,500 crore on fee reimbursement scheme and scholarships every year.
He said that the ambitious task of providing employment to 15 lakh youth under Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu will be achieved in spite of the difficulties and criticism.
