Tirupati to host World Telugu Conference in December
Temple-town Tirupati will play host to the 4th World Telugu Conference in December this year.
The state-sponsored event is being organised in Andhra Pradesh after a long gap of 37 years. The 1st World Telugu Conference was held in Hyderabad for a week, way back in April, 1975.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy held discussions here on Tuesday with some of his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials on the arrangements for the prestigious conference, to be held from December 27 to 29, and agreed to release Rs 25 crore for organising the event on a grand scale.
"Promotion of Telugu language and culture is the state government's responsibility," a press release from the Chief Minister's Office said, quoting Kiran Kumar.
Eminent Telugu people, who made a mark in different spheres of life from all over the world, would be invited to the conference.
Cultural conferences would be held in all districts of AP in September to highlight the significance of the WTC and motivate widespread participation of people in the big event, the CMO release added.
The Chief Minister will write to the Government of India seeking release of a postal stamp to commemorate the 4th World Telugu Conference.
