Top two ranks in Civils bagged by women

After being ranked 90th in the civil service exam last year, Mr D. Krishna Bhaskar, who secured ninth rank, was selected for the IPS and is currently undergoing training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
His optional subjects were public administration and anthropology. Incidentally, his younger brother Parth-asarathy Bhaskar has been ranked 373 and qualified for the Indian Revenue Service.
Ms Lakshmi Parthasa-rathy is currently the principal secretary in the transport department, and Mr Venkata Ramini Bhaskar is principal secretary, finance.
“I am very happy with their performance. As parents, we are proud to see both our children figuring in the final selection list in the civil services exam results. Their hard work has paid off,” said an elated Ms Parthasarathi.
“Though both my parents are IAS officers, I did not have the ambition to become an IAS officer till I finished my management degree in 2009,” said Mr Krishna Bhaskar. He did his B.Tech from IIT-Kharagpur in electrical engineering.
He then did an MBA from ISB-Hyderabad in 2009. “I started dreaming of becoming an IAS officer only after that. I worked hard for two years to pursue my dream. It was a pleasant surprise for me to know that I had figured in the top-10 list,” he said.
Mr Parthasarathy Bhas-kar did his MBA from FMS-Delhi, specialising in finance.
The two top ranks at the all-India level were held by women. Shena Aggarwal, who did her MBBS from AIIMS, Delhi, topped the country by securing first rank. Rukmani Riar, an arts graduate from TISS, Mumbai, was second.
V. Gopala Krishna, director of Brain Tree, where Mr Krishna Bhaskar was coached, says that 25 candidates from the institute were selected for various civil services this year.
Brain Tree student A. Mallikarjuna secured 20th rank, Pavan Kumar Malapati got 53rd rank, Nikhil Pavan Kalyan got 60th rank, Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu got 131 rank, Shiva Prakash Devaraju got 141 rank and N. Swetha got 163 rank.
Thirty-three students from Narayana IAS Acad-emy were selected for various civil services and another 138 students from Narayana IAS Academy, New Delhi branch figured in the selection list.
The percentage of Narayana candidates who cracked Civils in the country was 18.39 per cent, while it was 42.30 per cent in AP.
