Trafffic signal was red: SP

The CID SP, Mr M. Srinivas, was reportedly punched by two angry men as he failed to give them side at a traffic signal near KBR Park at around 9.30 pm. “When I stopped my car at the traffic signal near KBR Park, a Maruti Swift car stopped right behind me, and started honking continuously. When the sound became annoying, I put my head out of the window and asked them to stop and pointed out that the signal was still red. Then, the two people inside the car started abusing me in filthy language. They said ‘thu hat ré hamara raste sé (get out of our way).’ I couldn’t give them way because of the traffic signal,” he said.

“After the signal turned green, I started driving away but the car started following me, still honking. They came abreast of my car and continued to abuse me and made filthy gestures. After a few seconds, I stopped my car and they also stopped and came towards me. I told them that I would complain to the police if they continued to behave like that. However, they where behaving as if they were getting ready for a fight with me,” Mr Srinivas said. “They were insulting me using filthy language, even after seeing that my wife and my daughter were with me. They were behaving arrogantly,” the SP added.

The SP told the two men that he was a police officer, but they did not stop. “They said ‘tu police hai to kya karoge hamareko (what will you do to us if you are a cop)’. When I was trying to note down their vehicle number, one of them pulled me and tried to stop me. They both pushed me around and hit me a few times.” In the incident, Mr Srinivas sustained minor injuries on his shoulder. The SP disengaged himself, got back into his car and went to the police station and lodged his complaint.

After the SP lodged the complaint, the police caught up with the car and arrested Parthasarathi Reddy and Veerkumar. Jubilee police said they were not inebriated, and were on way to their office. Jubilee Hills inspector D.V. Pradeep Kumar Reddy said the police had booked a case against them under IPC Section 324 for causing hurt. Police said that the accused were produced before court and remanded.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
