Treasury strike to halt transactions
Financial transactions in the state will come to a standstill with the treasury employees in 13 districts of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions deciding to go on “pen down” strike from October 25.
The timing of the agitation is very crucial because the treasuries will be normally hectic with activity during the last week of every month due to disbursement of salaries to state employees, pensions and bills to private agencies.
The decision to go on “pen down” was taken on Tuesday after talks betw-een the representatives of treasury employees and principal finance secreta-ry Sambasiva Rao failed.
The employees have be-en agitating against the abrupt transfer of treasury director Nagarjuna Reddy by principal fina-nce secretary V. Bhaskar.
The employees have also been opposing refo-rms in the treasury management system which they say were proposed without consulting them.
The employees’ representatives told mediapersons that Mr Sambasiva Rao expressed helplessness over their demands and this has left no option for them but to take up agitation.
