The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has called for a Telangana bandh on Tuesday to protest the “Centre’s indifference” towards the separate statehood demand and the suicides by two Warangal youths for the T-cause. The party will, however, allow the SSC and other exams to go on as per schedule and educational institutions where exams are being conducted and the APSRTC have been exempted from the bandh.

“The bandh will cover all government institutions, commercial establishments, hotels, cinemas etc. But we have exempted educational institutions and the RTC in view of the ongoing SSC exams,” said Mr Etala Rajender, TRS Floor leader in the Assembly on Monday. The suicides by Bhojya Naik, a MBA student and Rajamouli, an auto driver in Warangal, in the last two days have once again stirred T-sentiments. The BJP, Telangana Telugu Desam Forum, Telangana Nagara Samithi, New Democracy and other T-organisations have supported the bandh.

Meanwhile, TRS MLAs staged a dharna in front of the Assembly gate on Monday morning and raised slogans against “Telangana traitors”. The newly-elected TRS, BJP and independent MLAs began their fresh innings in the Assembly by protesting the Centre’s delaying tactics and expressed their anguish over the suicides for the T-cause.

The TRS’ Mr Gampa Goverdhan, Mr Jogu Ramanna, Mr Jupally Krishna Rao and Mr T. Rajaiah, BJP’s Mr Y. Srinivas Reddy and independent MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, accompanied by other TRS MLAs offered floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park opposite the Assembly and demanded that the Centre carve out a Telangana state soon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
