Truck mows down two

An army man and his daughter were crushed to death by a concrete mixer truck near the Gachibowli flyover on Sunday afternoon.

The victims, Rama-swami, 47, a havildar at the Artillery Centre at Langar House, and his daughter Niveditha, 18, were hit by the truck and crushed under the rear tyre. They died on the spot, Raidurgam police said.

Ramaswami and his daughter were travelling on an Activa scooter. Raidurgam sub inspector M. Mahipal Reddy said that Ramswami had picked up his daughter from the campus of Hyderabad university, where she had just taken an exam, and was headed back home when the truck moving in the same direction rammed the scooter near the flyover. The two fell off the scooter under the impact and the truck’s rear tyre ran over them. Though locals rushed them to hospital, they were declared brought dead as they had suffered serious head injuries.

“Eyewitnesses said the truck driver recklessly changed lanes a few meters away from the flyover, and that caused the accident,” the police officer said.

The truck (AP 28 Y 6125) has been seized and the driver Sunil Kumar, a native of UP, is in police custody. He has been charged under Section 304 A for causing death by negligence.
Ramaswami is a native of Sivakasi in TN.
