Two injured critically in cylinder blast at house

Bonalu festival and birthday celebrations ended in tragedy for a family at Padmaraonagar when a couple were critically inj-ured in a fire caused by leak from a gas cylinder.

K. Sridhar, 40, and his wife K. Srilatha suffered more than 60 per cent burns. The couple’s daughters Sruthi, 7, Spoorthy, 4, parents of Srilatha, Madhusudan, 70, Lakshmi, 60, and the housemaid Jamuna, 60, suffered minor burns. Neighbours rushed all the injured to Apollo Hospital, Secunderabad.

Chilkalguda police said that it was Srilatha’s birthday on Saturday, which coincided with the Bonalu festival. So the family planned joint celebrations at their apartment at Victory Arcade at Padmaraonagar.
According to assistant district fire officer, Mr K. Vijayakumar, the fire erupted suddenly and quickly spread across the house.

Two fire tenders, from Moulali fire station and Malkajgiri took two hours to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
