Umesh Kumar’s suspension revoked
The Centre on Thursday asked the state government to revoke the suspension of IPS officer Umesh Kumar, holding that his suspension was untenable. Mr Kumar had been placed under suspension by the state government on June 19, 2012, for his unauthori-sed absence from duty. He was untraceable after a local court issued a non-bailable warrant against him on June 14, in connection with a forged letter case.
The government had no-ted that Mr Kumar had last attended office on June 11 and had neither applied for leave nor given any details of his whereabouts to the higher authorities. The 1977 batch IPS officer was chairman of Godavari Valley Development Authority at the time of his suspension. He had allegedly for-ged a letter in the name of a member of Parliament to complain against another IPS officer, V. Dinesh Reddy, with the intention of spoiling the latter’s prospects of becoming head of the police force in the state.
Pappu Nageswara Rao, advocate for Mr Kumar, told this newspaper that his client had challenged the suspension order before the Centre, which after examining the case, found that the allegation of absconding from duty against his client was incorrect as he had applied for casual leave.
He said that on the mentioned grounds, the Centre asked the state government to revoke the suspension of his client with immediate effect.
