V-Cs to be appointed in 13 state universities
Governor and Chancellor of universities E.S.L. Narasimhan is all set to appoint new Vice-Chancellors for 13 universities that have been functioning without them for one to three years.
The search committees, constituted to shortlist three V-C aspirants for each university, submitted their report to the state government a long while ago, but the files with the names stayed at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) for months instead of being sent to the Governor. The files were sent to the Governor two days ago, say sources in the department of higher education, and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy spoke to the Governor too. Applications for the V-C posts were invited from all over the country.
The universities functioning without V-Cs include Nagarjuna, Nannaya, Andhra, Ambedkar, Dravidian, JNTU-Anantapur, JNTU-Fine Arts, Krishna, Palamuru, Telugu, Sathavahana, Sri Venkateshwara and Padmavathi Mahila University. Once the V-C appointments are done, the state government is expected to take up the constitution of executive councils (ECs), the highest policy-making bodies in universities.
A majority of the universities across the state are functioning without executive councils since April 2010 after the Governor abolished those that were functioning even after their term was over.
