Vamsi wins YC state chief poll, battles criminal past
Former NSUI state president Challa Vamsi Chand Reddy secured a massive margin in elections to the state Youth Congress president’s post on Saturday, but pending criminal cases against him prevented an immediate declaration of the result.
The elections were conducted for the first time as per the reforms brought in by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. Returning officer Jayashanker Pathak did not officially declare the results citing complaints against Mr Vamsi Reddy regarding his alleged involvement in serious crimes.
Runner-up Anil Kumar Yadav said that though he had come second, he hoped that he would be declared the YC president as Mr Vamsi Reddy was most likely to be disqualified due to his criminal background.
Election Commission former advisor K.J. Rao, who had been entrusted with the job of conducting the elections in a fair and democratic manner by Mr Gandhi, said a final declaration wo-uld be made on Thursday.
