Vijayalakshmi writes to PM
YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi on Sunday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene at this juncture and direct the CBI to follow the rule book with regard to the arrest of her son and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. In her second letter written to Dr Singh, she pointed out that the intention behind Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrest was evidently political vendetta and harassment.
“After nine months of investigation, the CBI had not called him even once for questioning. But 15 days before the all-important by-polls, the CBI had asked him to appear before the court on May 25. He has been put behind bars undemocratically, clearly bringing back days of Emergency. The reason given by the CBI for the arrest is that Jagan will influence the witnesses if he is free, because he is an MP and president of YSRC. He has not influenced any witness from the beginning of this investigation when he was holding the same position. Keeping Jagan away from people, that too, when the political opponents have been taking undue advantage of his absence in the campaigning, is unfair and unjust. The CBI, which works under your governance, should be admonished for its wanton functioning,” she stated in the letter.
Ms Vijayalakshmi pointed out to Dr Singh that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was not even residing in Hyderabad when his father was the chief minister, that he, along with his family, were residing in Bengaluru and they continued to live there even after the demise of his father till 2010. “Moreover, every decision taken by the late CM has precedents and are the decisions of the Cabinet, which involves 45 ministers. Jagan is being accused of influencing an entire Cabinet in issuing GOs allegedly in his favour,” she added.
