Vijayamma baits Naidu on BC seats
The YSR Congress honorary president, Y.S. Vijayalakshmi, in an open letter to the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has suggested that instead of allotting 100 party tickets to Backward Classes, it would be better to reserve 100 Assembly seats for BC communities, and her party will abide by this. In her letter to Mr Naidu on Sunday, she reminded him that in the 2009 Assembly elections, he had promised 100 seats to BCs but gave only 47.
She also stated that her husband, late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, had increased representation to BCs and had allotted them 67 tickets during the 2009 polls. She said if both the TD and YSR Congress agree to reserve 100 seats for BCs in the Assembly, the Congress and other parties will automatically support the proposal and implement it.
“Let us reserve 100 seats for BCs, and let us identify them other than those reserved for SCs and STs and seats generally earmarked for minorities,” she suggested in the letter. She stated that she is giving this promise of reserving 100 seats for BCs after taking the opinion of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party president. She reminded Mr Naidu that a similar proposal was mooted by Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy for the local body elections and there was no response from the TD to that.
