Wakf’s lawyer in SC a ‘top secret’
The state Wakf Board is moving swiftly and pursuing the Manikonda land case in top secret. Even though Board members have visited Delhi and have almost decided on a counsel to fight the case in the apex court, the Wakf authorities are keeping the name a secret. They say the counsel for the Board will only be known on the day of his court appearance. The Board would pay between Rs 5 and Rs 7 lakh for an appearance to the advocate.
At a special meeting, the Wakf Board had set up a committee to search for an eminent Supreme Court advocate to fight the case and had formed another committee to monitor the case. “We have visited Delhi in pursuit of an eminent advocate to fight our case and we have almost decided on an advocate. Our legal team, headed by advocate Shafeeq Rehman Mahajir, will brief the case matters to our counsel in Delhi, but we have decided not to disclose the advocate’s name. The advocate appearing for AP Wakf Board will be known on August 23 when he appears in the SC,” said state Wakf Board chairman Afzal Biabani Khusro Pasha. “The Board will go to any extent to take back Manikonda land,” he said.
