Water Board publishes defaulters’ names online

Prominent personalities, industries and instituti-ons figure in the list of 576 defaulters published by Water Board on its website www.hyderabadwater.gov.in on Friday.

The Board published the list of consumers whose arrears exceeded Rs 1 lakh. The list includes secretary of HEH Nizam (Rs 1.03 lakh), former director general of police Swaranjit Sen (Rs 2.25 lakh), Owaisi Medical and Research unit (H-R) (Rs 36 lakh) and Church of South India (Rs 5 lakh), among others. However, they did not list the names of government departments that jointly owe over `150 crore.

The water bill arrears of consumers including domestic, commercial, industrial, bulk category and government departments have mounted to a total of over Rs 600 crore, out of which over Rs 350 crore in dues, along with arrears and penalties, are owed by domestic consumers. The remaining are non-domestic consumers such as commercial establishments, industries and bulk category connections.

Water Board officials said provisions of Revenue Recovery Act will be invoked and properties of the defaulters will be attached, if they failed to pay despite notices the Board is going to serve.
