We did not come across any violence: Assamese
A report from Guwahati said that two special trains had left Guwahati for Bengaluru, carrying back Assamese to the Karnataka capital. A spokesman for the Northeast Frontier Railway could not say how many people were on the trains.
Speaking in Itanagar, Techi Boje, who worked as a security guard in Hyderabad, said: “We don’t know about our future. Perhaps we could have stayed back.” Many of those who rushed home said they did not want to “take any risk”, though they themselves did not come across any kind of violence.
Assamese community leaders will meet police officials on Tuesday to discuss matters such as forming peace committees which will include locals. Two officials deputed by the Assam Chief Minister, who are monitoring the situation in the city, will also be present. On Monday, with Id being celebrated, special security arrangements were made at Anjaiahnagar and Siddiquenagar, where a large number of people from the Northeast live.
