Weavers get their wishes
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday announced a Rs 169 crore package for weavers.
Participating in a marathon eight-hour meeting with representatives and leaders of handloom and powerloom weavers at Jubilee Hall, Mr Reddy also announced the release of Rs 50 crore under the Revival and Restructuring package towards loan waiver for the weavers.
This will benefit 1,877 individual weavers and 191 handloom weavers' cooperative societies.
Announcing Rs 50 crore towards additional working capital to APCO thr-ough NCDC and Rs 25 crore towards silk yarn subsidy to APCO, Mr Reddy said that he will come out with a better package for weavers very soon.
The CM also announced release of Rs 15 crore to clear pending claims of cluster-market incentive under Integrated Handlo-om Development Scheme.
This will benefit 443 ha-ndloom weavers cooperative societies and apex so-cieties (APCO & APHDC).
Mr Reddy announced Rs 11.50 crore to settle the yarn subsidy claims. In all 277 primary cooperative handloom weavers cooperative societies will be benefited.
He also announced Rs 6.50 crore to settle the power tariff subsidy claims of powerloom units. This will benefit 20,182 powerloom unit holders and said all these funds amounting to Rs 169 crore will be released within three days.
The CM assured that every demand, request, suggestion and opinion of the weavers leaders, representatives and other public representatives would be taken note of and considered seriously and positive decisions will be taken for the welfare of the handloom and powerloom weavers.
