Winter sets in, city 6.5°C below normal
Winter has started to set in with the minimum temperatures plunging at many places in the state, said the director of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad.
Adilabad has recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 14.1° Celsius.
Hyderabad too showed a 6.5° Celsius drop from the normal minimum. The city recorded a lowest of 16.2° Celsius on Sunday.
“On Sunday, the minimum temperatures fell at many places over Rayalaseema, at one or two places over Telangana and changed little over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. They were appreciably below normal at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and below normal at one or two places over Rayala-seema,” said Sudhakar Rao, the director of IMD.
He said Adilabad has shown nearly 8.7° Cels-ius departure from the normal minimum temperature of 22.8° Cels-ius.
Mr Sudhakar Rao said the north-eastern winds are mainly responsible for this fall in temperature. He predicts temperatures will dip further in the next 48 hours.
