Woman dies, 6 school kids survive Abids road mishap

In a tragic incident, a 51-year-old woman was killed as a speeding RTC bus ran over the two-wheeler she was travelling on with her husband on Friday.
The bus, after it ran over the woman, rammed into an autorickshaw which was carrying six school children, who escaped unhurt, but were in a state of shock. The incident took place in front of Olympia Hotel, opposite SBH Bank near Gunfoundry, Abids.
The incident took place at around 3.45 pm on the busy road of Abids, where there is always a traffic jam owing to the many schools in the area.
The deceased, Prema Latha, and her husband Raghava Chary were heading from Raidurgam towards Koti on their two-wheeler. Even as the traffic kept moving slowly, an RTC bus (No. AP282174), which was speeding, rammed into the two-wheeler, due to which Prema Latha lost balance and fell on the road. The rear-wheel of the bus ran over her head and she died on the spot.
After this, the driver lost control of the bus and rammed into an autorickshaw carrying five students of Sujatha School and one student of Stanley School from behind.
Ume Sania, a student of the Sujatha School, said, “I was talking with my friends, when suddenly something from behind hit our auto. I didn’t know what happened. We all started crying for help. Later, I saw that a bus had hit our auto and we almost got killed.”
The other students were also scared. The parents of the students were informed about the incident. They rushed to the spot to pick the children up.
