Women, men in drunken brawl
A drunken brawl led to a fight near Hotel IK Residency in Somajiguda early on Sunday. The Punjagutta police arrested Shaik Shabnam, 26, Syed Rehan, 22, and Mohammed Asadullah Khan, 19 for allegedly belting a businessman and his friends in the hotel’s restaurant. The victims and the police said that the accused attacked them as they objected to the foul language used by the woman.
Syed Rehan is a student of Anwar ul Uloom College. Police said two other accused were absconding. The incident took place at 2 am. The complainant Sudhanshu Sharma, 24 suffered injuries and was treated at a corporate hospital. Punjagutta inspector Ashoka Chakravarty said, “The accused consumed liquor at Park Hotel and came to Hotel IK residency at midnight. Shabnam was also drunk. While talking on the phone she used abusive language. The complainant and others laughed at her and she began abusing them in foul language. As the complainants objected to this, she and her friend beat them up with a belt. Two of them suffered injuries.”
Sudanshu Sharma said, “Seven of them including three girls came in while we were eating. One of the women was abusing someone in vulgar language on the phone publicly. We left our food halfway and decided to walk out. One of us looked at them and they followed us downstairs. They asked us why we were laughing at them and picked up an argument. When we tried to reply they assaulted us with belt and buckles. I was injured and have stitches on my face. We called the cops. They told us they know the gangs in Toli Chowki.” The hotel director said the fight took place outside the hotel.
