Writ against TTD Trust chief
A writ petition has been filed in the AP High Court by an advocate challenging the appointment of K. Bapiraju as the chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board for a period of two years. An advocate from Mahbubnagar, P.V. Vijay Bhaskar, filed the plea, contending that the appointment of the chairman as well as 10 others as members of the board of trustees was against the law and also the rules under the AP Charitable Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act. He urged the court to grant an interim order to restrain the functioning of the chairman and members of the TTD board pending disposal of his petition.
PIL on women’s commission posts
The Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha, represented by state president S. Malathi Rani, has moved a public interest litigation before the AP High Court, seeking a direction to the state government to constitute the AP Women’s Commission by appointing a chairperson and six other members. The petitioner stated that the government had failed to fill up the posts of the chairperson and members till date though the tenure of the members and chairperson of the second Women's Commission had expired in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The petitioner said that the government had constituted the first Women’s Commission on June 1, 1999 which continued till May 31, 2004. Thereafter, the second Commission was constituted on January 27, 2005, and its chairperson and members had discharged their duties for nearly three years.
