YSR in mind, ATC grounds CM
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had to cancel his Indiramma Baata in Kurnool on Monday as his chopper was grounded due to bad weather.
Sources said that with Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's fatal helicopter crash in Kurnool district almost three years back still fresh in their minds, the Air Traffic Control did not want to take any chance with Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The immediate successor of YSR, K. Rosaiah to a great extent avoided travel by chopper while the present CM is travelling for short distances.
Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy is using regular flights to places like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati.
The state government recently decided to hire a private jet on wet lease basis for use by the CM.
After being grounded on Monday, the CM postponed his Indiramma Baata to Tuesday.
He will reach Deebaguntla village at 10 am and participate in farm mechanisation activities and interact with paddy farmers and seed growers. He will then proceed to Nandyal.
Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy will remain in the district till September 6.
Meanwhile sources said that the Chief Minister has sorted out the problems in the district that had arisen recently due to the release of waters from Srisailam, which had led to the resignation and subsequent withdrawal of the same by Nandyal MP S.P.Y. Reddy.
Much to the government's relief, Kurnool district received copious rainfall on Monday, thus easing tensions.
While there was no rain on September 1 and just 1.1 cm on Sunday, the district received an average rainfall of 2.6 cm on Monday with areas like Srisailam receiving as high as 7 cm of rain.
