YSRC not to engineer defections
YSR Congress leaders, who met here on Saturday, formally decided not to encourage defections of MLAs from other parties as of now and instead wait for an opportune time to strike, based on the likely developments in the ruling Congress after the Presidential polls.
The leaders also decided to depute a team led by party honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi and comprising all its MLAs and Nellore MP, to go to Delhi to meet various party leaders including the President, the Prime Minister and other Union ministers to appraise them of the cases against party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
“We have not yet taken a decision when to go and whom to meet, but we will certainly go to Delhi and meet all the national leaders to expose the CBI plans of framing Mr Reddy in various cases,” a senior party leader told this correspondent. “We are trying to get appointments. We will submit a common memorandum to the leaders detailing the cases foisted on Mr Reddy. The people have rejected the allegations against him through the ballot in the just concluded bypolls,” the leader said.
He said it was not the right time for the party to encourage defection of MLAs when Congress Central leadership has decided not to effect any change right now owing to the party's poll debacle. “Maybe, after completion of the Presidential elections, things will move in that direction, so we also decided to wait and watch,” the leader said. Meanwhile, both Ms Vijayalakshmi and daughter Sharmila Reddy left for Bengaluru for a much-needed rest.
