‘Anderson onus on Cong govt’
The LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday stated that his party would stick with the RJD for this year's Bihar Assembly elections. While hinting that the CPI could join the alliance, Mr Paswan stated that it was upto the Congress to decide if the party wanted to join their alliance for the Bihar poll or not. The LJP chief also stated that the onus for the escape of Anderson after the Bhopal gas leak lay with the then MP state government.
“Congress ko aana hai to aaye, na aana hai to mat aaye (If Congress, too wants to come, it is welcome. If it does not come, it is also okay),” Mr Paswan rema-rked, while adding that his tie up with the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD is rock-solid. Making open his displeasure at the Congress not supporting him in the RS polls, Mr Paswan told reporters that though the CPI backed him due to his secular credentials, the Congress wasted its votes in place of supporting him. The LJP chief hit out at the Congress led UPA government by stating that not a single deed has been done in favour of dalits.
“I shall be sitting in the Opposition in the RS. I am in Opposition. Do you think I am with the treasury. I will sit in opposition but may support the government on issues that are in consonance with our party's policies,” he said. On whether he regrets joining a Congress-led government in the past, he said: “I have no regrets. There were circumstances... To keep communal forces away.”
Though Mr Paswan held the portfolio of chemical and fertiliser in the UPA-I, he stated that he had no power to deal with the issue of Bhopal gas leak. He went on to say that the onus lied with the then MP chief minister, Arjun Singh, to explain the events leading to the escape of Anderson.
