‘Bankers received cash for undue favours’
Maninder Singh Johar of Central Bank of India had received `30 lakhs for an undue favour provided by him in the matter of M/s Lavasa, CBI sources said. Johar had been handling the Lavasa project, which was routed through Sharma.
Regarding Ramchandran Nair, director and CEO of LIC Housing Finance, the source said that Nair had purchased a flat at Satellite Towers in Goregaon (E) at a discounted price and had allegedly taken a bribe from Sharma to finance the purchase. “Sharma gave a bribe of `45 lakhs to Nair, who handled the matters of DB Realty, Pashmina, Mantri Realty, Sigrun, Entertainment World, Indore City Treasures. This money was routed by Sharma,” the source claimed.
“We have recovered several incriminating documents, hard disks, investment papers and files of private parties to whom loans were facilitated,” the source added. Naresh Chopra, secretary (investment) of LIC, had received a bribe of `16 lakhs from Sharma for providing inside information about the dealings regarding investment matters of LIC related to M/s Adani, JP Hydro, JSW Power, DB Realty, Pantaloons, Adalite and MTECH.
About Venkoba Gujjal, DGM, PNB, the source alleged that he had taken a bribe of `7.5 lakhs from Sharma for sanctioning loans for his clients. The eight accused have been remanded to CBI custody till November 29.
