‘BJP, Cong only care about rich’
Political parties such as the BJP and the Congress represented only the interest of the rich and privileged classes, said Bahujan Samaj Party leader and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati.
Addressing an election campaign meeting of her party here on Saturday, she said these parties received huge amount of money from the big industrialists.
Ms Mayawati also alleged that parties like the BJP and the Congress were trying to sabotage reservation for the SC, ST, other backward classes and the minorities.
The quality of life of these communities did not improve because the Congress and the BJP were only worried about protecting only the interests of the rich, she reminded.
She asked the voters in Kerala to give a chance to her party as the people here are fed up with the Congress and the Left.
The BSP could perform well in Uttar Pradesh because of the welfare measures initiated by her party, she said.
The BSP has fielded candidates in 127 of the 140 constituencies of Kerala and hopes to improve its performance this time. It has not formed an alliance with any other party though that is the norm in Kerala politics.

Make public black money: Achuta to PM
age correspondent
thiruvananthapuram
April 9: Chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to unearth the black money deposited by leaders of the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Swiss banks.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the chief minister pointed out that Hasan Ali Khan, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for stashing black money abroad, had confessed that he had ties with the UDF leaders of Kerala.
This has given rise to serious doubts that money belonging to UDF leaders was part of the `36,000 crore that was allegedly deposited by Khan in Swiss Banks, he said.
Mr Achuthanandan said media reports had also come out stating that leaders in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh had secretly parked funds in Swiss Banks. Thus the Prime Minister must disclose the names of leaders who had made deposits through Khan, he added.
It may be recalled that the chief minister as well as CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat had alleged that the Congress was running its campaign in Kerala with black money.
CPI state secretary C.K. Chandrappan had also reiterated the allegation the other day.
