‘Bugged’, AC passengers stop train
Coimbatore, Feb. 15: Bitten by hordes of bugs that invaded the AC Coach of the Mangalore-Jammu Tawi Express, sleepless passengers brought the train to an unscheduled halt at the Coimbatore station for hours demanding a solution, early on Tuesday.
The 24 passengers in the AC three tier coach complained of bed bugs from Kozhikode onwards and had been arguing with the railway officials to do something about it. However, their requests and quarrels went in vain until the train reached Coimbatore.
When it arrived at the Coimbatore station at 1.10 am, the passengers, stopped the train and refused to allow it to move, without an immediate solution to the issue. The train was delayed for over three hours.
The railway station manager, Mr D. Chandrasekaran, provided an additional AC coach to the train, after maintenance. “The passengers were shifted to the new coach. And the train, which had to leave by 1.15 am, left the station by 3.40 am. We locked the AC coach and provided new one. It will disinfected at the destination,” said Mr Chandrasekaran.
