‘CPM must not follow BJP line’
A section of Bengal leaders in Kolkata feel that time and again the “Left parties are hotly pursuing the BJP line, which was sending a wrong signal”.
It was further argued that “since the Left parties were rapidly losing people’s support, such bandhs (like the Bharat bandh) would further erode their vote banks”.
However, Mr Prakash Karat “felt that success of the bandh would not merely be a wake-up call for the Centre, but would also help the reds regain the support of the working class”.
On Monday evening, speaking to this newspaper, a central committee member of the party claimed that “people’s reaction to the bandh was not exactly great. Instead of praising us, they were blaming both the Left and the BJP which we wanted to avoid.”
He further argued that “moves to paralyse life in Bengal would also help the Trinamul Congress consolidate further since people are anyway fed up with our wrong political decisions.”
