‘Extortion motive behind abduction’
The CBI’s voluminous chargesheet clearly pinpoints Gujarat minister of state for home entrusted the task of eliminating Sohrabuddin to his three trusted lieutenants, IPS officers, D.G. Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandiyan and Abhay Chudasama.
The chargesheet claims that extortion was the main motive behind the kidnapping and subsequent killing of the gangster in a staged shooting executed by a joint team of the Gujarat and Rajasthan police officials with the blessings of political boss Shah.
The chargesheet provides detailed account of nexus of gangster, police, politician and extortion network they were running while spelling out the exact roles played by the key players right from hatching the conspiracy to killing of Sohrabuddin, subsequent killings of Kauser Bi and Tulsi Prajapati to eliminate eye witnesses.
The agency has also got crucial documentary evidence to substantiate the charge that the former ministers and accused policemen did try very hard to hamper the investigation, temper with evidence and tamper evidence.
Besides, the prosecution agency, after six months of vigorous investigation, has got testimonies of around 10 witnesses who deposed under section 164 of CrPC, which makes the testimonies unchangeable and admissible evidence in the court during the trial.
Witnesses like Patel brothers, Mahendrasinh Jala, Azam Khan, Nooru Ghoghari, Murtuzakhan Pathan and others have given details of extortion and how they were falsely implicated by the Gujarat police at the instance of Mr Shah.
