‘Fate of CPM will be sealed by 3rd phase’

Indicating that her party was coming to power in Bengal, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday predicted that the fate of the CPI(M)-led Left Front government will be sealed by the time the third phase of the Assembly elections are over, and they would not have to wait till the sixth phase of the polls.

She said, “Only a couple days ago, the election got underway with the first phase held at 54 Assembly constituencies in North Bengal. Our party was weak in that region earlier as we had only few seats. But the way the people came out for casting their votes on April 18 proved that the Left Front is not going to win even 10 seats in North Bengal. The massive turn-out of the voters has shaken the Left Front.” Ms Banerjee was speaking at a rally at Amatala in South 24 Parganas in support of her two party candidates: Dilip Mondal from Bishnupur and Sonali Guha from Satgachhia.
Ms Banerjee told the rally: “The Left Front will continue to be shaken by the voters when the second phase polls will be held on April 23 in Nadia, Murshidabad and Birbhum. Next on April 27, we will cast our votes in the third phase in Kolkata, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas which will seal the fate of the Left Front forever.”
She also lambasted chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for accusing her recently of pumping in black money in the Assembly polls.
Earlier Ms Banerjee announced at Raidighi near the Sundarbans that her government would ensure industrialisation in the state if it was elected to the power. She, however, made it clear that it would not acquire land for setting up private industries.
“We want industries to be set up in the state. But land should have to be bought by the industrialists,” she said assuring of development of the riverine and forested region.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
