‘Freed Ulfa must desist from anti-national activity’
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Saturday said that his government would allow the pro-talk faction of Ulfa to hold public rallies provided they continue to talk on peace.
Ignoring the incident of slogan shouting in favour of outlawed Ulfa outside the central jail by supporters of Ulfa chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa, Mr Gogoi told reporters, “We have not suspended the counter-insurgency operations against any militant outfit. If released Ulfa leaders dare to indulge into any anti-national activities, we shall take action.”
Asserting that forthcoming assembly elections would not have any impact over the peace-process, Mr Gogoi said, “It may slow down but will continue during the elections also.”
He also announced that anti-talks faction of outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland has also expressed their willingness to join the peace-process. “They have also sent the written proposal to the government,” said Mr Gogoi who claimed that his government has succeeded in bringing all the militant outfits to the negotiation table.
While stating that he was hopeful that the insurgency problem would be solved in the New Year, Mr Gogoi said that the government would come down with a heavy hand against those who fail to shun violence. Claiming that the state has made significant progress in the field of education and health.
Giving a detailed account of their achievement, he stressed the need of strengthening the co-operative movement and that a cooperative university was being set up in Sivasagar to fulfil the goal.
Chief minister also announced that a new Ayurvedic College and new Engineering College will be set up at Dhubri and Golaghat district respectively. Moreover free uniform will be given for the students reading up to Class VII. A new department will be created to look after the functioning of the newly created Development Councils. Mr Gogoi further said that 15 more sub-divisions would be set up while two bridges over the Brahmaputra at Dhubri and Fulbari would be built.
