‘Govt steps will help black money holders’
The CPI(M) has criticised recent indications by the government that it will give immunity to tax evaders who has money stashed away illegally either in India or abroad and allow them to pay tax plus the penalty on it.
It has said that such a move will only help those with black money convert it into white.
S.Sudhakar Reddy, CPI(M) deputy-general secretary has written to PM Manmohan Singh saying that such a move would be a “betrayal of the nation”.
Further, he has said that the move would not be one that gives “immunity” to those with black money but one that be an “amnesty scheme for black money holders”.
He has also wondered whether the government’s proposal which has also been suggested by the BJP amounts to a “clandestine understanding” between the two parties. He suggested that the government should instead confiscate black money.
