‘Hindus will not take no for a verdict’
On the eve of the verdict, Kalyan Singh, a former BJP leader who for years was in the vanguard of the movement to rebuild the Ram temple, and was UP CM when the Babri Masjid was pulled down, struck a visibly aggressive note when he told Amita Verma that if the verdict was not in their favour, “Hindus will not accept the verdict.”
The verdict on the Babri title suit will not resolve the issue — it will simply move up the case to the Supreme Court. If the verdict comes in favour of Hindus, it will mean a step forward in the direction of building the temple at the site. If not, the Hindus will not accept the verdict. No court can find an acceptable solution to the issue except the people’s court. Besides, the temple, for all practical purposes, already exists in Ayodhya and does anyone have the guts to remove the idols from there? This time, the movement for the temple construction will be led by seers and saints and I will follow them like a true Ram bhakt. The BJP has harmed the temple movement and has betrayed the people. It should apologise to the Hindus. The BJP ruled for six years but did not take a single step towards temple construction. All the other parties are indulging in minority appeasement and it is for this reason that their leaders are avoiding visiting Ayodhya. Can you recall any Congress, SP or BSP leader having visited Ayodhya in recent years? It is merely because they do not want to annoy Muslims who are a part of their votebank politics. Moreover, Lord Ram was a mythological figure and millions worship him whereas Babar was merely a Mughal ruler. How can you pit an ordinary mortal against a divine entity?
