‘If guilty, strong action in IPL case’
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday hinted that strong and effective action would be taken if anyone is found guilty in the Indian Premier League affairs.
Responding to a query on the alleged black money involved in the Twenty-Twenty cricket league, the Prime Minister said, “There was a discussion on the issue in Parliament and finance minister had given a reply.”
“He informed the House that his ministry officials are investigating the matter and if anything wrong comes to the light, the government will take effective action,” said the Prime Minister.
A discussion on the issue in the Parliament took place after a public spat between former Union minister Shashi Tharoor and suspended Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi. There were allegations that black money was used to buy IPL teams.
The entire Opposition rocked Parliament and during discussion, Opposition members went on to even demand for scrapping the sporting league.
Following this finance minister Pranab Mukherjee promised an investigation into the financial transactions in the Indian Premier League.
