‘Madhuri gave info to Canada mission spies’
Indian diplomat Madhuri Gupta, arrested for counter espionage, was reportedly in constant touch with two officials posted at Indian high commission in Canada and through them she was allegedly passing on crucial information to her handlers in some other countries.
Sources in the central intelligence agencies say that there are reports that she might have passed on some crucial information to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) through the officials posted in Canada, which is being investigated.
“There are reports that some of the active members of Babbar Khalsa were in touch with two officials posted at Indian high commission in Canada. And the duo was passing information to them after receiving the same from Ms Gupta. Investigating officials are likely to question the two officials who are under the scanner,” sources said.
The Babbar Khalsa International is a terrorist organisation and its members are currently active in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland and Pakistan, they added.
Sources further informed that the duo was in touch with Ms Madhuri Gupta through emails.
Ms Madhuri Gupta used to pass them crucial information through mails on a regular basis, while constantly changing her email accounts, sources said, claiming that some of her email accounts have been identified also. Sources, however, refused to reveal her email addresses. Hard disk of her computer has already been sent for forensic examination in Hyderabad.
Besides, investigating officials are also questioning some Indian officials who worked with her in Islamabad and some other countries, where she was posted. She had also served in Kuala Lumpur and Baghdad. Investigating officials have already zeroed-in on 10 contacts of Ms Madhuri Gupta in India, whom she was regularly in touch with.
Sources said that Ms Gupta used to talk to these contacts frequently and for very long durations. Some of them have already been questioned by the investigating officials.
Investigating officials have recovered two mobile phones, one computer and certain documents from her possession.
Investigating agencies are trying to gather details about her bank accounts in Islamabad for which a formal request has already been sent to the authorities concerned in Pakistan.
Once the relevant documents related to her bank accounts are collected, agencies will start scrutinising the details of transactions also, sources said.
