‘Mamata, allies have ganged up’
Terming the Trinamul Congress as “the most venomous force”, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday said that whereas the Left parties stand for the progress of Bengal, the Trinamul Congress wants to take the state backwards. Criticising Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee without naming her, Mr Bhattacharjee scoffed at her “for being devoid of any logic and lacking in any sense of reality.”
Ridiculing the rationality of Trinamul Congress’ argument that there was no Maoist in Bengal, the chief minister argued how could they be absent if Naxals existed in neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Orissa. “Even the Centre will never accept the argument of the Trinamul Congress,” Mr Bhattacharjee said. In what seems to be in line with his party’s policy of widening the division between the Congress and the Trinamul Congress, Mr Bhattacharjee said: “Finally the Congress has woken up to the reality that the party (the Trinamul) was a violent and reactionary force and hence they opposed its former ally on the issue of civic polls,” he said.
Claiming that Ms Banerjee was leading a rainbow alliance of the RSS, the Maoists, rightists, fundamentalists and anti-Left foreign powers, he said: “They have all ganged up. They want to dethrone the Left.” Mr Bhattacharjee also referred to the RSS mouthpiece Organiser which stated recently that the Trinamul Congress should come to power in Bengal indicating that the two organisations had united against the Left Front. “Those leaders from the BJP who have joined the Trinamul Congress have links with the RSS,” he claimed.
Mocking at railway minister Mamata Banerjee’s frequent announcements of new trains, he said: “We do not know where trains like ‘Duranto’ or others are going.” Mr Bhattacharjee also bantered that the Trinamul Congress had six ministers of state in the Central government but nobody knew what they have done over the past one year.
He also slammed the Trinamul Congress chief for her comments that the Stephen Court fire in which 43 people were killed on March 23 was the handiwork of the state government agents who also tried to remove bodies secretly from the building. “Only Hitler and Mussolini used to campaign like this. They used to think people are gullible and will believe them. The same is being attempted here,” he said.
