‘Meira more affectionate to Pranab’

JD(U) president and Opposition NDA convenor Sharad Yadav on Thursday tried to make light of the prevailing situation in the Lok Sabha by claiming that Speaker Meira Kumar has more “affection” for finance minister Pranab Mukherjee than the Opposition.

In the morning when the Lok Sabha assembled for the day, Mr Yadav, while urging Ms Kumar to allow a debate on the price rise under Rule 184, which entails voting, said, “Ek varsh ho gaya hai, aapka prem Pranab babu ki taraf toh khub jhalakta hai, lekin hum logon ki taraf aapki daya kabhi nahi hoti (It has been a year now, your affection is more towards Pranab Mukherjee (treasury benches) and you have been less kind to us.”
On this, Mr Mukherjee, who is also the Leader of the House, was seen with folded hands and smiling.
Mr Yadav’s jibe against Speaker in the lighter vein came a day after she rejected Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion.
