‘MK’s only motto is corruption’

AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa fired more salvoes at DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, saying his only motto is “corruption is possible at anytime and anywhere.”

Addressing a large gathering in the Fort Ground in Vellore on Thursday, Jayalaithaa urged the people to vote for her alliance to save democracy and salvage their freedom from Karunanidhi’s family.
“Six crore people in the state are suffering at the hands of one (Karunanidhi) family. So everyone should come forward to vote for AIADMK alliance to dethrone family rule in the state,” she told a crowd that cheered enthusiastically.
“Corruption has become a part and parcel of all welfare and development schemes of the DMK government, she said, adding, “He (Karunanidhi) never thought about the welfare of the people of the state, but he wanted his family to prosper further by exploiting the resources of the state. He wanted his family that is one of the Asia’s richest families to become world’s richest family.”
Intensifying her scathing attack on Mr Karunanidhi, she said he and his family profited `50,000 crore from sand smuggling and ` 80,000 crore from granite smuggling. This is apart from the mega scandal, 2G spectrum, to the tune of `1.80 lakh crores. “If the government received the amount, the country would have prospered,” she noted.
Amma promised that if she was voted to power she would stop the smuggling of sand from the Palar riverbed and take measures to stop the construction of the check dam across Palar by Andhra Pradesh.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
