‘Modi stalling Lokayukta post’
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi continues to receive flak for not appointing state Lokayukta, an authority mandated to examine corruption charges against the chief minister, members of his Cabinet and bureaucrats.
On Monday, Gujarat Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil accused Mr Modi of stalling the appointment of Lokayukta despite the fact that the state governor Dr Kamla has already recommended Justice S.D. Dave’s name for the post.
Mr Gohil slammed as “false propaganda” the state government official statement that painted the Congress as villain in the process of appointment of state Lokayukta.
Mr Gohil was categorical that it was the chief minister who has stalled the appointment.
“This is merely because the Lokayukta can probe corruption by the chief minister and his council of ministers, Modi is sitting on the file despite the governor’s recommendation” he said.
Mr Gohil pointed out that “the law is very clear that the governor has to appoint Lokayukta in consultation with the Chief Justice and Leader of Opposition. There is no provision for any kind of involvement of chief minister or his Cabinet in the appointment of Lokayukta.”
