‘No hint of Cong, AIADMK alliance’

CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday said that the AIADMK, which is finalising seat-sharing with his party, has not given any indication that it will leave its allies to join hands with the Congress for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls in the wake of DMK’s decision to pull out of the UPA government at the Centre.
“We are in the midst of finalising seat-sharing with the AIADMK. We have no such indication. We are in constant touch with the parties with which we are going to contest the elections in Tamil Nadu,” he said. Mr Karat said that the rift between the Congress and the AIADMK is a good development for the parties who are “out to defeat the DMK’’. “If one coalition has problems, it will help the other”, he said. However, he felt that “trouble within the UPA is nothing new”. “They’ll sort it out I think. You will soon see what happens,” he said.
The CPI(M) leadership, which had pinned the blame on its state units for the drubbing in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, is now rallying behind West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan to drive the Left towards victory in the forthcoming Assembly polls in the states.
“I am sure Mr Bhattacharjee will lead the election battle and campaign in West Bengal,” Mr Karat said. “In both major states, for the Left and the CPI(M), we have urged the people to vote for the Left Front for its eight consecutive term in West Bengal and for the LDF government in Kerala,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
