‘No more forces for Naxal ops’
The Central paramilitary forces are hard-pressed and any further deployment of the CPMFs for the ongoing anti-Naxal operations can happen once the force personnel undergoing training for counter-insurgency duties complete their training. The present strength of the CPMFs does not allow pressing of additional manpower in the Naxal hotbeds, government sources said.
The paramilitary forces are going to see themselves busy in law and order duties in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Commonwealth Games in October, Assembly elections in Bihar followed by the Panchayat elections in Jharkhand, the sources said. The Union home ministry is concerned about the security for all these events which will require heavy deployment of paramilitary forces especially the CRPF.
“We do not want to send Central forces for the anti-Naxal operations only to call them back early. Such a move will only make the villagers vulnerable to the Maoists who may later brand them as police informers. They will only be sent if they can be deployed for long,” said a official.
