‘People will ask Left to rest for 35 years’
Ridiculing chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s appeal to the people to vote for the formation of the eighth Left Front government in the state, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday said why would the people give him one more chance. “They have already ruled for 35 years. Why will the people elect them again.
People instead will tell them to now take rest for 35 years,” she said. Ms Banerjee was addressing an election rally at Bijoygarh in Jadavpur constituency. Mr Bhattacharjee is contesting from Jadavpur.
Ms Banerjee who has pitted former state chief secretary Manish Gupta against Mr Bhattacharjee has addressed a number of meetings in Jadavpur. “Didi is bent on not only ousting the Left Front from power but also ensuring Mr Bhattacharjee’s defeat,” a Trinamul Congress MP said.
Welcoming Union home minister P. Chidambaram’s attack against the Left Front government, Ms Banerjee said it only vindicated her stand. “I have been saying for years that law and order in the state has deteriorated and CPI(M)’s harmad camps have sprung up in large number. I am glad that Mr Chidambaram has also flayed the law and order in the state,” she added. The Trinamul Congress chief addressed a string of rallies in Howrah.
