‘Prove I took even Rs 1, I’ll quit as MP’
Sacked Commonwealth Games organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi on Sunday sought a joint parliamentary committee probe on all aspects of the Games to “help the bring the truth out in the public domain”. He added if the charges against him were proved true, he would resign as an MP.
He vowed to quit Parliament if any proof of him taking even a single rupee surfaced. “I can vouch that I have not gained financially even a single rupee out of these Games; if proved otherwise I am prepared to step down as a Member of Parliament,” Mr Kalmadi said in a statement on Sunday.
“I am deeply pained and constrained at the malicious campaign against me. The stories going around are far from the actual facts,” he said.
He said if the government agreed to a JPC probe into the 2G scam, it was “only fair” a similar JPG examined CWG-related issues. He complained he was “singled out” despite the fact that the OC handled just five per cent of the entire Games budget.
