‘Tribal’ MLA under scanner

Independent MLA from Rajasthan’s Bassi constituency Anju Khangwal landed in trouble while the Scheduled Tribes Commission questioned her certificate as a tribal and recommended action against her. However, Ms Khangwal said such allegations were unfounded.
According to the commission, she obtained a certificate as Dhanka, which is not in the list of
Scheduled Tribes. The Bassi tehsildar had issued a certificate to Ms Khangwal on September 16, 2008 declaring her a tribal. “Her certificate as a tribal is false and hence invalid,” said director of the commission, Dr G.S. Somawat.

Dausa MP asks wife to resign

Dausa MP Kirorilal Meena has asked his wife Golma Devi, who is minister of state for khadi with the Congress government, to resign from the post saying the tribal people were dying of hunger in south Rajasthan. “There is no logic to remain as minister while the tribal population is facing starvation,” Mr Meena said while appealing to her wife to resign.
Ms Golma Devi had won the election as an Independent and was included in Mr Ashok Gehlot’s ministry as minister of state. Mr Meena staged a sit-in outside the Udaipur district magistrate office with a group of tribals.
“I demand compensation for the families who lost their kith and kin due to starvation in Udaipur’s Kotra region,” Mr Meena said.

Madani alleges conspiracy
Age Correspondent
Thiruvananthapuram

The People’s Democratic Party chairman, Mr Abdul Nasser Madani, who has been listed as an accused in the fresh chargesheet of the Bengaluru blasts case, said that the Central Intelligence Bureau and the Karnataka police were conspiring against him.
“I have no connection with the incident and this is a conspiracy to turn an innocent person into a terrorist,” said Mr Madani, who is now camping in Anvarasserry of Kollam, his stronghold. PDP workers have reportedly thronged the area after news spread that their leader may be arrested by the Karnataka police.
Apprehensive of trouble, the Kerala police has deputed more forces in the area, including plainclothes men, to monitor the PDP’s moves.
