‘UPA image at rock bottom’?3/?22/?2011

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) president Sharad Yadav on Monday said that the image of UPA-2 (the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre) is now at rock bottom with one scam tumbling after another.
Mr Yadav said that after the Adarsh Society, Commonwealth Games and the 2G spectrum scams, the Congress-led government at the Centre now finds itself in the corner over the latest WikiLeaks expose which puts the Congress Party in the dock over the allegation that in 2008 it had resorted to payoffs to pass a confidence vote in Parliament. There is nothing major about the cash for votes expose by WikiLeaks, he said, adding we have been raising this issue for more than two years.
When asked to give his reaction on news-reports about the interrogation of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Adityanath and the allegation that he was the financier for a terror plot, an accusation flatly denied by the BJP MP, the JD-U leader said; “anyone who spreads terror and is responsible for killing innocent citizens should be sternly dealt with.”
Elaborating upon the future status his party’s alliance with the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Yadav emphatically said that his party’s alliance with the BJP would continue in that state.
On the issue of corruption, Mr Yadav said the malaise has spread from Delhi to the villages. “One only has to go to the rural area and see the performance of panchayati raj or the poor implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme,” he said, adding the future of this country will not be bright unless all of us honestly join the war against corruption.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
