‘Why hasn’t BJP apologised for Babri?’
Questioning senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s recent acceptance that the demolition of Babri Masjid had “badly dented” his party’s credibility, the Congress on Tuesday sought to know as to why then the main Opposition never tendered “apology” to the nation for the “unfortunate incident” that took place approximately two decades ago.
Responding to Mr Advani’s recent blog post in which he conceded that Babri demolition has severely dented the credibility of the BJP, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, while referring to the BJP leader’s earlier statement that he was extremely sad with the demolition said, there was “sadness but no remorse, no apology” and added that the saffron stalwart, and in particular the BJP, seems to be making “distinction without differences”. The spokesperson also questioned whether the recent statement by the BJP leader is also an exercise in speaking with “forked tongue” alleging the statements by BJP has always been hallmarks of double speak. Finding motive into Mr Advani’s remarks, the Congress leader said the saffron party seems to have tried to give message, as elections in five states are round the corner.
