1 debutant in three new faces
With Wednesday’s Cabinet reshuffle being a minor one, only three new faces have found their way into Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s team. and of the three, two have been ministers in previous governments which leaves K.C.Venugopal donning the mantle of “newness”.
The other two new faces in the Cabinet, Ashwani Kumar and Beni Prasad Verma have held ministerial portfolios earlier. While Mr Venugopal, a first time Lok Sabha MP from Kerala, was sworn in as the minister of state (MoS) for power, Mr Verma took oath as minister of state (independent charge) for steel. Mr Kumar was sworn in as MoS holding charge of the ministries of planning and parliamentary affairs and science and technology and earth sciences.Mr Venugopal who represents Alapuzha, has been inducted in view of the impending assembly polls in Kerala. He is expected to pull in the votes of the important Nair community in the state. The 47-year-old is the replacement from Kerala in the Cabinet after MoS in the ministry of external affairs, Shashi Tharoor was dropped.
