10 die as Mumbai building collapses
Two months after the collapse of a seven-storey unauthorised building, which killed 74, a three-storey building, reportedly illegal, came crashing down in Mumbra on Friday, killing 10 and injuring 14 people.
The mishap has once again highlighted the menace of illegal constructions in Mumbra.
Smriti Apartments, a ground plus-three building at Bazarpeth, near Mumbra railway station, collapsed at 2 am. Most of the residents were fast asleep at the time of the accident and had little chance of getting out.
The casualties included two infants and three children.
The injured have been admitted to Kalsekar Hospital in Mumbra, CSM Hospital in Kalwa and Civic Hospital in Thane. One of the injured, Lubna Punjabi (25), is stated to be in critical condition.
